Klaus Doldinger: Saxophones & Flute
Born in Berlin, Klaus celebrated his 65th birthday in May 2001. During his college years at the Düsseldorf Robert-Schumann-Conservatory (clarinet, piano, music theory), Klaus founded his first band (the FEETWARMERS) and went on his first US tour in 1960. While on tour, he was awarded the Citizenship of Honor of Jazz-Metropolis New Orleans. Numerous awards, among them the Music Award of the town Munich, followed thereafter. In 1962, the KLAUS DOLDINGER QUARTETT was founded, followed by the formation of PASSPORT in 1971. Twenty seven PASSPORT recordings have been produced in the past thirty years. The band has become an important stepping stone for many now famous jazz musicians. Beside his outstanding career as a jazz musician, Klaus Doldinger has also been very successful with numerous film soundtrack compositions. In 1970, he composed the main theme for the ARD-show "Tatort" (most successful German detective show on TV), and also wrote the music to film classics such as "Das Boot" and "Die Unendliche Geschichte" (The Neverending Story).
